Belgian Competition Authority Seeks Input on Digital Markets Act Guide for Tech Entrepreneurs

23.06.2024 | 🇧🇪 Belgian competition authority

The Belgian Competition Authority is seeking feedback on an information brochure aimed at tech entrepreneurs regarding the Digital Markets Act, highlighting opportunities for innovation in European digital markets.

The Belgian Competition Authority (BCA) has launched a consultation on an information brochure titled 'The Digital Markets Act – a short guide for tech challengers'. The purpose of the brochure is to inform tech entrepreneurs and digital business users about the opportunities presented by the Digital Markets Act (DMA) for fostering innovation in European digital markets.

The consultation coincides with the ECN Digital Markets Act Conference in Amsterdam, focusing on how the DMA enables challengers to develop alternative business models to compete in digital markets. The consultation seeks to gather insights on the opportunities arising from the obligations imposed by the DMA on core platform services of digital gatekeepers like Amazon, Apple, Google, and Microsoft.

The final version of the brochure will be widely distributed to public authorities, trade associations, and businesses interested in utilizing it. The consultation period runs until July 19, 2024, and contributions can be submitted to the BCA via the dedicated email address provided.

The BCA is an independent administrative authority in Belgium responsible for enforcing competition policy. It addresses anti-competitive practices, reviews merger operations, and collaborates with other competition authorities in the EU through the European Competition Network (ECN).
