Dutch Heat Supplier DEEM NL Goes Bankrupt, InWarmte Steps in as Emergency Supplier

14.11.2024 | 🇳🇱 Dutch competition authority

DEEM NL, a Dutch heat supplier, has been declared bankrupt, leading to the appointment of InWarmte as an emergency supplier to ensure residents continue to receive heat.

DEEM NL B.V., a small heat supplier in the Netherlands, was declared bankrupt by the court, prompting the Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth to designate InWarmte as the emergency supplier to take over heat supply operations.

With approximately 300 connections on various heat networks, DEEM NL's bankruptcy has caused issues in the supply of heat to around 100 residents in IJmuiden. Efforts are being made by the ACM and the Ministry of KGG to resolve these problems swiftly, including providing temporary solutions like electric heaters.

This situation marks the first instance of a heat supplier going bankrupt in the Netherlands, highlighting the need for better consumer protection measures in the upcoming Dutch Collective Heat Act. Discussions between the ACM and the Ministry of KGG are ongoing to address these concerns and ensure residents are not left without heat in similar situations.
