More than 80,000 consumers are set to receive compensation from the Eventim ticket sales portal following an investigation by the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH). The company failed to inform consumers in a timely manner about certain fees exceeding the ticket price during the purchasing process.
The GVH initiated a competition supervision procedure in May 2023 against Eventim, suspecting that the company influenced consumers with hidden costs during the purchasing process.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Eventim applied drip pricing in online ticket sales, informing buyers inadequately or belatedly about certain fees, such as handling, delivery, or collection costs, only after placing tickets in the cart. The company cooperated with the Authority, admitted the infringement, and waived its right to appeal. Eventim committed to compensating affected consumers by paying each buyer who made a purchase on the portal between January 1, 2022, and February 2, 2023, a sum of 700 forints per person, equal to the hidden handling fee charged per purchase during the relevant period.
