In 2023, parcel shipments surged by 15% to over a billion, driven by e-commerce, while letter volumes dropped by 10% compared to the previous year.

In 2023, the postal sector saw a significant increase in parcel shipments, reaching 1.014 billion, a 15% rise from the previous year, attributed to the growth of online shopping. However, the number of letters sent decreased by 10% to 1.341 billion, marking a 62% decline since 2015.

The Postal Register recorded a 7.7% rise in the number of registered companies by the end of 2023, totaling 3,119 entities, with 1,221 being self-employed individuals.

The most sought-after products in the postal sector were ordinary letters and postcards, while parcels weighing up to 2 kg were the top choice in courier and parcel services.

Correos, the public operator, held an 86% market share in traditional postal services and a 19% share in parcel delivery.

According to the latest CNMC Household Panel, around 80% of respondents did not send letters to individuals, over 50% received letters from companies, and more than 80% neither sent nor received packages unrelated to online purchases. Additionally, two-thirds of respondents did not visit any postal office in six months.
