24.04.2024 | 🇭🇺 Hungarian competition authority

The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) agrees with the postponement of certain planned amendments to the competition law, aiming to ensure comprehensive professional consultation before implementing changes.

The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) supports the postponement of certain planned amendments to the competition law to facilitate broad professional consultation. This decision aims to incorporate reassuring guarantees for all parties involved in the proposed provisions.

The Government submitted a proposal on April 2, 2024, to amend laws related to justice, including the Competition Act of 1996. The proposed changes, inspired by German regulations, included introducing provisions for enterprises of fundamental significance to enable the GVH to intervene swiftly and effectively in cases of distortion of competition.

The President of the GVH emphasized the importance of collaborating with market players and conducting extensive consultations to shape the authority's legal practices, which are then publicly disclosed.

In response to discussions at a parliamentary committee meeting, the GVH reiterated its commitment to seeking broad professional consensus on laws and their practical application. The President highlighted the need for further extensive professional consultations regarding the planned amendments to ensure adequate guarantees for all stakeholders.

To facilitate comprehensive professional consultations, the GVH President proposed establishing a competition advocacy working group involving relevant legislators, ministries, market players, businesses, and representatives. The consultations are set to commence shortly.
