CCA Fines Retailer DJELO for Unfair Trading Practices

18.11.2024 | 🇭🇷 Croatian competition authority

The Croatian Competition Agency fined retailer DJELO EUR 65,000 for serious violations of the Act on unfair trading practices in the food supply chain.

The Croatian Competition Agency (CCA) imposed a EUR 65,000 fine on DJELO d.o.o. for breaching the Act on unfair trading practices in the business-to-business food supply chain. The CCA initiated an investigation to determine if DJELO abused its bargaining power and enforced unfair practices on its agri- and food product suppliers.

The investigation revealed that DJELO violated payment terms, lacked price clarity, omitted delivery deadlines, failed to define product shelf life, and imposed unjustified quality control costs on suppliers. Additionally, DJELO delayed payments to several suppliers, breaching the mandatory payment terms set by the UTPs Act.

To address these violations, the CCA issued commitments to DJELO for eliminating unfair trading practices. Due to the severity, extent, and duration of the violations, along with mitigating factors, DJELO was fined EUR 65,000. The CCA aimed for this penalty to deter not only DJELO but also other entities in the food supply chain from engaging in similar practices.
