Slovak Antimonopoly Office Empowered for Digital Markets Oversight

01.05.2024 | 🇸🇰 Slovak competition authority

President Zuzana Čaputová signed an amendment granting the Slovak Antimonopoly Office new competences in line with the EU's Digital Markets Act, aiming to ensure fair competition in the digital sector.

President Zuzana Čaputová signed an amendment to the Act on the Protection of Competition, empowering the Antimonopoly Office of the Slovak Republic (AMO) with new rights and competences related to the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).

The DMA aims to foster fair competition in digital markets by addressing the dominance of a few large companies that control the digital space, making them essential partners for businesses. The goal is to promote an open and competitive digital environment.

The amendment to the Act outlines the additional responsibilities of the AMO in line with the DMA. The European Commission (EC) can now seek assistance from the AMO, such as conducting market surveys, to enforce DMA rules effectively. The AMO will collaborate closely with the EC to uphold competition regulations in digital markets.
