Zalando to Change Practices and Distribute Vouchers Following UOKiK Decision

24.07.2024 | 🇵🇱 Polish competition authority

UOKiK President has compelled Zalando to properly inform customers about their rights when using the shopping platform, resulting in the company also granting consumers vouchers for use on zalando.pl.

UOKiK President initiated proceedings against Zalando last July, accusing the e-commerce platform of not providing required information about sellers on the platform, leading to uncertainty for customers regarding their rights.

Additionally, Zalando was found lacking in clear information regarding the division of responsibilities between the platform and its partner sellers, causing confusion for customers in terms of complaints and returns.

As a result of the UOKiK decision, Zalando is obligated to make changes on its website to comply with informational obligations under the Omnibus Directive.

In addition to website changes, Zalando will provide all customers who purchased products from its partners between January 1, 2023, and the date of compliance with a 40 PLN voucher for use on Zalando's products within 6 months.

The Omnibus Directive, effective from January 1, 2023, has prompted UOKiK to monitor how e-commerce platforms have adapted to the new obligations, resulting in interventions and modifications by various operators such as Glovo, Uber Eats, and Aliexpress.
