Croatian Competition Agency Approves Perutnina Ptuj's Acquisition of Toni

20.06.2024 | 🇭🇷 Croatian competition authority

The Croatian Competition Agency has approved the acquisition of a controlling interest in Toni by Perutnina Ptuj, with no anticompetitive effects identified in the transaction.

The Croatian Competition Agency (CCA) has cleared the acquisition of a controlling interest in the undertaking Toni by Perutnina Ptuj in the first phase of review. Toni is active in the purchase, drying, and storage of grains.

The vertical integration resulting from this acquisition will impact markets such as grain purchase (wheat, corn) in northern regions of Croatia, wholesale grain market across the country, production and sale of fresh and processed poultry meat in Croatia, and retail market of fertilizers and agricultural protective agents in specific regions.

The CCA found that the acquisition will not harm competition, as Toni's market power in corn and wheat purchase and wholesale market is not significant. It is unlikely to restrict the availability of grains for competitors in the poultry meat market.

Since the transaction does not establish or strengthen a dominant position, it does not hinder effective competition and was cleared in the first phase without the need for a compatibility assessment procedure.
