The ACM imposed fines on five online stores for offering products with misleading discounts based on inaccurate 'was-prices', deceiving consumers into thinking they were getting better deals than they actually were.
The fines are a response to violations of the tightened rules on 'was/now' prices, where discounts can only be applied to the lowest price a product was offered at in the 30 days prior to the discount.
Some companies inflated 'was-prices' to make discounts appear larger, while others did not offer any discounts at all despite displaying them, leading to consumers paying more than they should have.
ACM fined companies in various sectors, including fashion, furniture, and electronics, to ensure fair pricing practices and protect consumers from deceptive marketing strategies.
