CMA Secures Commitments from Worcester Bosch Over Misleading Marketing Claims

09.08.2024 | 🇬🇧 UK competition authority

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has obtained formal commitments from Worcester Bosch after investigating the brand's potentially misleading marketing statements regarding its boilers.

The CMA raised concerns that Worcester Bosch's marketing claims about its boilers being 'hydrogen-blend ready' could mislead consumers into thinking they were unique, despite most boilers having the same capability.

Additionally, the CMA was worried that consumers might be misled into believing that buying a Worcester Bosch boiler would significantly reduce their carbon footprint and future-proof their heating systems, which was not necessarily the case.

Worcester Bosch has committed to ensuring its marketing materials accurately represent the environmental benefits and future-proofing aspects of its boilers. This includes withdrawing or amending misleading content across all marketing channels and contacting installers and retailers to make necessary changes.

The CMA has also taken action in the green heating sector by sending warning letters to other boiler suppliers and launching a consumer guide to educate people about their consumer rights.

Worcester Bosch will provide progress reports to the CMA on the implementation of the commitments, which will be closely monitored by the authority.
