In the second quarter of 2024, high-speed rail passengers in Spain rose by 21% compared to the previous quarter, exceeding 10.2 million. The growth was particularly notable in competitive routes like Madrid-Málaga/Granada, with an increase of almost 30%.
Prices monitored by the CNMC dropped over 20% on routes such as Madrid-Sevilla (-21%) and Madrid-Málaga (-29%). New services by Ouigo and Avlo connecting Valladolid with Madrid and Alicante attracted around 130,000 passengers.
While freight traffic improved compared to the previous quarter (+5.8%), it decreased by 0.6% year-on-year.
