OIM Study on Single-Use Plastics Regulations Impact on UK Internal Market

29.07.2024 | 🇬🇧 UK competition authority

The Office for the Internal Market (OIM) is conducting a study on the economic impacts of regulatory restrictions on single-use plastics across the UK, aiming to provide expert advice to support the effective operation of the UK internal market.

Since 2011, the UK has implemented measures to address single-use plastic waste, with bans on certain products in Scotland, England, and Wales, while Northern Ireland plans future restrictions.

The OIM, part of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), is reviewing the economic impacts of reducing single-use plastics and aims to assist governments in developing future policies.

The OIM seeks feedback from stakeholders, including SMEs, on their experiences with regulatory changes related to single-use plastics and how differences in regulations have affected businesses and innovation across the UK.

The study includes a short online survey available until September 16, 2024, and stakeholders can also share their views via email.
