The ACM has issued decisions on three measures aimed at encouraging large-scale users to reduce grid usage during peak hours, freeing up capacity for others and sustainable electricity producers. Additional measures are expected in the future to ensure grid costs remain manageable in the long term.
ACM has set out basic principles for future tariff changes, providing guidance for system operators and other stakeholders. These principles will be used to evaluate proposals and develop new tariff structures, such as feed-in tariffs and tariff differentiation for small-scale users.
Grid congestion is primarily a concern during peak hours when demand exceeds grid capacity. To address this, large-scale users connected to TenneT's high-voltage grid will receive discounts for reducing usage during peak hours starting January 2025. System operators can also offer contracts prohibiting usage during busy hours in exchange for lower tariffs, promoting flexible grid utilization.
ACM emphasizes the importance of market participants implementing these measures promptly and is prepared to collaborate with system operators and other stakeholders to refine and implement necessary adjustments in the future.
