Blackstone Inc. Acquires Grand Hyatt Athens Hotel Unit with Competition Authority Approval

07.11.2024 | 🇬🇷 Greek competition authority

Blackstone Inc. has received approval from the Competition Authority to acquire exclusive control over the company operating the Grand Hyatt Athens hotel unit.

Blackstone Inc. has been granted permission by the Competition Authority to acquire exclusive control over 'SYNGROU 115 Hotel Enterprises Single Member S.A.', which operates the Grand Hyatt Athens hotel unit.

The relevant markets affected by this transaction include the provision of hotel services for both five-star and four-star hotels, as well as the market for hotels of both star ratings. The geographic scope of the market primarily covers Greece, with further examination on specific islands and regions.

At a local level, there is no horizontal overlap between the parties involved in the concentration, whether considering five-star hotels, four-star hotels, or a combination of both. On a national level, the horizontal overlap leads to negligible market shares. Therefore, the Competition Authority unanimously approved the concentration, as it does not raise serious doubts regarding its compatibility with competition requirements in the relevant markets.
