08.11.2024 | 🇵🇱 Polish competition authority
Vectra, a mobile operator, raised subscription fees shortly after contract signings, citing inflation rates. The clauses allowing fee changes were deemed abusive by the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK), resulting in a fine of over 68 million PLN.
In September 2022, Vectra started including clauses in consumer contracts that authorized changes to existing terms, such as introducing price hikes or new unforeseen fees. These changes were vaguely defined, giving Vectra discretion over fee adjustments without considering reductions, potentially impacting consumers' bills.
UOKiK found that Vectra modified contracts based on inflation rate changes, shifting the economic burden entirely onto consumers. New customers were reportedly offered contracts at old prices, only to face price hikes shortly after signing. Consumers criticized Vectra for not providing transparent information on potential price increases.
