Hungarian Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Online Gambling Websites

21.11.2024 | 🇭🇺 Hungarian competition authority

The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) and the Supervisory Authority for Regulated Activities (SZTFH) are taking strict actions against illegal online gambling operators deceiving Hungarian consumers.

The GVH and the SZTFH have collaborated to block several illegal online gambling websites, warning consumers to be cautious and only use services from registered and licensed gambling operators in Hungary to avoid falling victim to scams.

In a recent case, the GVH imposed a significant competition fine on a Maltese company for misleading consumers by copying games of a Hungarian gambling company and falsely advertising them as their own.

Despite the penalties and orders to cease operations, the Maltese company continued organizing prohibited games, leading to further enforcement actions by the GVH and SZTFH to protect consumers and lawful businesses.
