The Belgian Competition Authority approves the acquisition of Scancar by Vermant in the automotive 
distribution sector 
 
On 19 September 2024, the Belgian Competition Authority (“BCA”) approved the acquisition of Scancar by 
Vermant.  
 
The concentration was notified on 10 September 2024 and the application of the simplified procedure was 
requested. 
 
Vermant is a car dealer of the Volvo and Kia brands which, to date, has been operating exclusively in the province 
of Antwerp, with six outlets located in Mechelen, Bornem and Brasschaat. Vermant's activities include the sale of 
new passenger cars, used cars, maintenance and repair services, passenger car body repairs and the sale of spare 
parts for passenger cars.  
 
Scancar is active in the sale, repair and maintenance of new and used passenger cars of the Volvo and Polestar 
brands. Furthermore, Scancar is active in the retail sale of spare parts. Scancar has five branches, located in 
Antwerp, Deurne, Brasschaat, Lier and Wilrijk.  
 
By acquiring sole control of Scancar, Vermant aims to expand its activities in the province of Antwerp and 
broaden its portfolio with the Polestar brand. 
 
In its decision of 19 September 2024, the BCA found that the conditions for the application of the simplified 
procedure were met and that the notified concentration did not raise objections.

as cartels and abuses of a dominant position, and reviews the main merger operations. The BCA cooperates with the

Belgian Competition Authority Greenlights Vermant's Acquisition of Scancar in Automotive Distribution Sector

The Belgian Competition Authority has given the green light to Vermant's acquisition of Scancar in the automotive distribution sector. Vermant, a car dealer of Volvo and Kia brands, has been operating in the province of Antwerp, while Scancar deals with Volvo and Polestar brands.

Vermant's activities include the sale of new and used cars, maintenance and repair services, body repairs, and spare parts sales. Scancar is involved in the sale, repair, and maintenance of cars, as well as retailing spare parts, with branches in Antwerp, Deurne, Brasschaat, Lier, and Wilrijk.

By acquiring Scancar, Vermant aims to expand its presence in Antwerp and enhance its offerings with the Polestar brand. The Belgian Competition Authority found that the simplified procedure conditions were met and that the acquisition did not raise any concerns.
