06.06.2024 | 🇱🇻 Latvian competition authority
Latvia's Competition Council (KP) now offers a structured overview of merger data on its website, starting from 2022. The information is internally recorded and automatically updated on the website after the evaluation process.
The interactive tool allows users to analyze merger statistics for different periods, compare data, and gain insights into Latvia's business environment, benefiting experts, journalists, and the public.
Since 2022, the Council has made 47 merger decisions, with 96% approved unconditionally, one approved with conditions, and one case terminated.
Almost half of the mergers involved competitors merging horizontally, a third operated in unrelated markets, and nearly one-fifth were between companies in both horizontal and vertical relationships.
70% of mergers were reviewed in the first phase, taking an average of 23 days, while 30% underwent a more in-depth second-phase review lasting 74 days on average.
KP experts provided consultations to market participants in 62% of cases, totaling over 300 consultation hours.
