European Competition Authorities Meet in Brussels to Discuss Key Issues

European competition authorities, including representatives from 32 countries, gathered in Brussels to discuss topics such as promoting competition in the EU single market and the use of data science in investigations.


European competition authorities, along with representatives from the European Commission and national policymakers, met in Brussels on November 20-21 to discuss various competition-related issues.

Topics on the agenda included promoting competition in the EU single market, exploring the use of data science and artificial intelligence in investigations, potential changes to leniency programs, and merger control practices in member states.

The European Commission presented its new priorities in the field of competition and provided updates on the transposition progress of the ECN+ Directive and the latest enforcement practices under Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.

Additionally, a meeting organized by the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) was attended by representatives from various countries, including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Greece, Croatia, and others.

During the same period, a representative participated in discussions with the Director of the Competition and Mergers Task Force of the Legal Service of the European Commission, focusing on the legal support provided by the Legal Service and the importance of legal assistance in ensuring the legality and representation in investigations conducted by the Directorate-General for Competition and national competition authorities.

The meeting also addressed mutual professional cooperation, exchange of experiences and knowledge, and the inclusion of national experts appointed by the Competition Council in the team of Competition and Mergers lawyers.
