The Council of Regulators of the Iberian Electricity Market (MIBEL) marked the 20th anniversary of the agreement creating the market with a commemorative conference in Braga on October 1, 2024. The event focused on the accumulated experience over two decades and the future challenges facing global, European, Iberian, and national energy markets amidst energy transition goals.

Government representatives from Portugal and Spain emphasized the importance of deepening regional market integration for the benefit of Iberian consumers. The conference concluded with the president of the Energy Services Regulatory Entity (ERSE) summarizing key ideas from the discussions, highlighting the sustainable progress made towards decarbonizing the electricity sector at reasonable costs, stressing the essential role of all stakeholders in achieving these goals.

The Council of Regulators of the MIBEL operates under an International Agreement between Spain and Portugal, focusing on regulating, operating, and supervising the Iberian Electricity Market. It consists of a Presidents' Committee and a Technical Committee, with ERSE currently holding the presidency since January 1, 2024.
