In late 2023, quintuple packages (fixed and mobile telephony, fixed and mobile broadband, plus pay TV) cost around 3 euros more per month than in late 2022. Meanwhile, the price of quadruple packages (fixed and mobile telephony, fixed and mobile broadband) remained stable.
Telephony fixed services continued to lose customers, with 69.7% of households having this service, a decrease of six percentage points compared to two years ago.
Spanish households spent slightly more on bundled telecommunications services in 2023, according to the latest CNMC Household Panel data focused on the communication services available to Spanish households. By the end of the year, the quadruple package (fixed and mobile telephony, fixed and mobile broadband) averaged 43 euros per month, while quintuple packages (including pay TV) averaged 79.8 euros per month.
Regarding the penetration of electronic communication services, fixed telephony continued its downward trend, being present in seven out of ten households, which is six points lower than two years ago. On the other hand, the rest of the services continued to gain popularity.
Among mobile service users, 85.5% connected to the Internet using a mobile broadband service provided by their operator, and 92.2% had a smartphone. Of these, 24% were occasional or regular users of open Wi-Fi networks.
The results are part of the CNMC Household Panel, a biannual survey of households and individuals. The CNMC aims to collect information directly from citizens through surveys and analysis of service invoices. The study covers various sectors, including the telecommunications, audiovisual, energy, postal, and transportation markets. The survey in the fourth quarter of 2023 included 5,148 households and 8,601 individuals, providing diverse information to better understand consumer perspectives.
