CNMC Corrects Correos' Universal Postal Service Compensation for 2013

20.05.2024 | 🇪🇸 Spanish competition authority

The CNMC has adjusted Correos' calculations for the compensation related to the Universal Postal Service in 2013, reducing the amount by €16 million due to a new methodology.

The CNMC has verified the net cost of the Universal Postal Service provided by Correos in 2013, setting the compensation at €141.8 million, lower than Correos' initial calculation. This adjustment was possible after the approval of a methodology for calculating the net cost in June 2021. The Universal Postal Service ensures postal services are available nationwide at affordable prices, with Correos receiving compensation for the additional costs incurred. The CNMC now has the authority to determine the financial burden of this service, a power granted since the Postal Law of 2011, but only recently enabled due to the methodology's approval.
