The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) found that 10% of consumers who changed energy contracts did so following unsolicited offers made over the phone or at the door. The annual consumer survey by ACM provides insights into consumer behavior and experiences in the energy market.
Most consumers opt for new energy contracts through the supplier's website (35%), comparison websites (22%), or via customer service channels (14%). A small percentage (6%) switched after telemarketing calls, and 4% after door-to-door sales.
ACM has taken action against misleading telemarketing practices related to energy contracts and advises consumers to carefully compare rates at their own pace and avoid agreeing to unsolicited offers. Additional information and tips are available on ACM's consumer information portal, ACM ConsuWijzer.
The survey also indicates a decrease in the number of consumers perceiving natural gas and electricity prices as high. This aligns with ACM's observations in the consumer energy market report, which is updated monthly based on data provided by energy suppliers.
In the latest report, fixed natural gas contract prices have risen by 2 to 4% compared to the previous month, reflecting increases in wholesale market prices. ACM monitors market trends and pricing to provide transparency to consumers.
