17.07.2024 | 🇬🇷 Greek competition authority

The Hellenic Competition Commission imposed a fine on a supermarket chain for breaching competition law by implementing a prohibited decision on geographic market allocation.

The Hellenic Competition Commission imposed a fine on the supermarket chain 'EL.OM.A.S Hellenic Retail Group Supermarket Company Ltd' for violating competition law by implementing a decision on geographic market allocation.

The case involved the retail distribution market of supermarkets at the retail level. The supermarket chain received complaints from its members requesting the closure of stores belonging to one member in a geographic area where another member of the group operated, based on a general rule set by the General Assembly requiring a specific geographic distance between their stores.

Following the findings, the group acknowledged the violation and submitted a proposal for settlement. The Commission accepted the proposal, acknowledging the breach of competition law related to geographic market allocation.
