22.09.2024 | 🇪🇸 Spanish competition authority

Enérgya VM Gestión de Energía, S.L.U. has been fined one million euros by the CNMC for manipulating the natural gas market, violating EU regulations.

Enérgya VM Gestión de Energía, S.L.U. has been sanctioned by the CNMC for manipulating the organized gas market between September 1 and December 31, 2022, by artificially setting the daily price of the D+1 product in 32 trading sessions.

The company engaged in illegitimate practices to raise market prices by inserting high-priced buy offers in the final seconds of trading, aiming to avoid their execution and reduce their economic impact if matched with other offers.

This behavior constitutes market manipulation under EU Regulation No. 1227/2011, REMIT, by introducing false or misleading signals about wholesale energy product supply, demand, or prices.

The infringement by Enérgya VM is classified as severe under the Hydrocarbons Sector Law, with a fine of one million euros imposed by the CNMC.
