The ninth Franco-German Competition Day took place in Paris, featuring discussions on generative artificial intelligence and competition challenges in the retail sector. The event, organized by the Bundeskartellamt and the Autorité de la concurrence, serves as a platform for exchanging views on common topics of interest.
Andreas Mundt and Benoît Cœuré, Presidents of the Bundeskartellamt and the Autorité de la concurrence respectively, highlighted the importance of dialogue and collaboration between the two competition authorities. They emphasized the shared issues both authorities face and the benefits of mutual understanding in addressing competition concerns.
The conference gathered over 100 French and German competition experts, including various professionals from legal, regulatory, and business backgrounds. High-level panellists engaged in discussions on key trends in generative artificial intelligence and competition dynamics in the retail sector.
Two roundtables were held during the event, focusing on the challenges of artificial intelligence and the competition aspects of value sharing in the retail sector. The discussions delved into regulatory frameworks, market practices, and the behavior of market participants in Germany and France.
In addition to the regular program, a Policy Talk session featured Members of the European Parliament and the Presidents of the Bundeskartellamt and the Autorité. They discussed European competition policy, institutional agendas, and priorities in light of the Draghi report, emphasizing the commitment to effective competition enforcement.
Prior to the conference, representatives from the Autorité de la concurrence and the Bundeskartellamt held an internal meeting to discuss common interests informally. These exchanges aim to strengthen cooperation at the European level, enhance bilateral relationships, and develop joint approaches to fulfill their missions amidst evolving legal and economic landscapes.
