The Latvian Competition Authority is investigating the merger notification submitted by SIA 'LATVIJAS ZAĻAIS PUNKTS' and SIA 'EKO OSTA'. 'LATVIJAS ZAĻAIS PUNKTS' operates as a producer responsibility system operator in waste management systems for environmentally harmful goods, while 'EKO OSTA' is involved in managing and processing environmentally harmful and hazardous waste.
The activities of the merging companies overlap in the market for waste management of used oils, oil filters, waste tires, and electrical and electronic equipment in Latvia. Both companies operate in vertically related markets, with 'EKO OSTA' having a contract with 'LATVIJAS ZAĻAIS PUNKTS' for participation in the waste management system.
The decision on approving, prohibiting, or approving with binding conditions the merger must be made by the Latvian Competition Authority within one month of receiving the notification. If further in-depth investigation is required, the decision-making deadline can be extended up to three months from the notification date.
Market participants or other interested parties willing to provide their opinion on the merger's impact on competition are invited to contact the Senior Expert of the Latvian Competition Authority, Baiba Lapina, by June 21, 2024, or fill out the questionnaire on the website.
