CCPC Clears Phey Topco's Acquisition of Dental Medical Ireland with Divestiture Requirement

01.05.2024 | 🇮🇪 Irish competition authority

The CCPC has approved Phey Topco's acquisition of Dental Medical Ireland but mandates the sale of its dental supplies subsidiary to address competition concerns.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has cleared Phey Topco's acquisition of Dental Medical Ireland, subject to commitments including the divestiture of Phey Topco's subsidiary BF Mulholland.

Dental Medical Ireland supplies dental products in Ireland and the UK, while Phey Topco's DD Group, through BF Mulholland, supplies dental products and equipment as well as products to beauticians and aesthetic clinics.

The CCPC's assessment of mergers like this aims to protect competition by ensuring businesses compete on price and quality. The investigation focused on potential impacts on competition in the supply of dental consumables and equipment.

To address competition concerns, Phey Topco committed to selling BF Mulholland and agreed to certain restrictions to prevent negative impacts on the subsidiary. An independent trustee will monitor compliance with these commitments.

The CCPC has approved the acquisition, and details of the decision will be published on its website. Parties involved can request the removal of confidential information before publication.
