Benoît Cœuré, the President of the Autorité de la concurrence, has been chosen as the new Chair of the OECD Competition Committee, starting from January 2025 for a renewable one-year term. He will take over from Frédéric Jenny, who played a significant role in the Committee's development over the past three decades.
Additionally, Natalie Harsdorf will replace Alberto Heimler as the Chair of the Working Party on Competition and Regulation, while Jonathan Kanter has been re-appointed as the Chair of the Working Party on Cooperation and Enforcement.
During his tenure, Cœuré will focus on key issues such as the impact of digitalization on the economy, ecological sustainability, and the relationship between competition and industrial policies.
Amidst rapid technological advancements and global challenges, Cœuré aims to uphold competition principles, enhance collaboration with OECD bodies, and engage with international forums effectively.
The OECD Competition Committee, established in 1961, comprises experts from OECD member and partner countries. Its core mission is to safeguard and advance competition as a fundamental element of modern economies. The Committee's efforts include strengthening competition law enforcement, advocating for pro-competitive reforms, aligning competition policy with other OECD initiatives, and facilitating dialogue among member states' competition authorities.
