Italian Competition Authority's Recommendations for Taxi Services

05.03.2024 | 🇮🇹 Italian competition authority

The Italian Competition Authority is urging Municipalities in major cities to increase the number of taxi licenses, improve service quality, and enhance flexibility in shifts to address serious shortcomings in the taxi industry.

The Italian Competition Authority has identified structural insufficiencies in taxi licenses, lack of monitoring mechanisms, and excessive rigidity in shift organization in major cities like Rome, Milan, Naples, Florence, and Palermo. The Authority has sent complaints to Municipalities highlighting concerns and recommending remedies such as increasing licenses beyond the 20% limit, stable monitoring of service quality, regulating second driver rule, implementing taxi sharing, and adjusting licenses for cars equipped to transport people with serious disabilities.
