Stellantis to Compensate Diesel Car Owners for Adblue Issues

20.12.2024 | 🇳🇱 Dutch competition authority

Stellantis has pledged to compensate European consumers affected by Adblue-related problems in their diesel vehicles, following discussions with consumer authorities.

Stellantis, the car manufacturer behind brands like Peugeot, Citroën, and Opel, has committed to compensating consumers in Europe who have experienced issues with their diesel vehicles equipped with Adblue technology. These issues, which have been reported in several countries including the Netherlands, involve software malfunctions that can cause engines to stop unnecessarily and require early replacement of the Adblue tank, leading to significant repair costs for consumers.

The commitment comes after Stellantis engaged in discussions with European consumer authorities, who have been monitoring the situation closely. Affected consumers who purchased diesel cars with Adblue tanks between August 2014 and August 2020 may be eligible for compensation. To facilitate this process, Stellantis plans to establish a dedicated platform where consumers can report their issues and seek redress.

The European consumer authorities will oversee the compensation process to ensure that it is handled fairly and transparently, providing reassurance to consumers that their concerns are being addressed.
