The President of UOKiK initiated an investigation into the actions of the Polish Football Association (PZPN) and Ekstraklasa SA, the organizer of the top football league in Poland, following reports that the association was charging a fixed fee to bookmakers for the use of sports match results, regardless of whether they were generated by PZPN and Ekstraklasa events or other events. The investigation concluded with PZPN and Ekstraklasa changing their fee calculation and reducing the rates. The new model now considers only the revenues from bookmakers related to bets on Polish football matches. The issue at stake was the potential abuse of dominant position by PZPN and Ekstraklasa. The affected industry is Sports, and the legal areas concerned are Abuse of Dominance and Regulatory.
