18.08.2024 | 🇫🇷 French competition authority
Bouygues Telecom notified the Autorité de la concurrence of its plan to acquire sole control of La Poste Telecom, which is currently jointly controlled by the La Poste group and SFR. The Autorité has approved the transaction without imposing any conditions.
Bouygues Telecom operates in the electronic communications sector, offering fixed and mobile telephony, broadband, and ultra-broadband Internet access. La Poste Telecom, on the other hand, is an MVNO with around 2.3 million customers, marketing its mobile telephony offers under the 'La Poste Mobile' brand.
The Autorité found that the transaction would not significantly impact competition in the mobile telephony retail market, considering La Poste Telecom's limited market shares and the presence of strong competitors like Orange, SFR, and Free. It also noted the extensive distribution network of Bouygues Telecom, which includes the La Poste group's post offices/bank branches.
Furthermore, the Autorité concluded that the transaction would not allow Bouygues Telecom to engage in anti-competitive practices in the upstream wholesale market for access and call origination on mobile telephone networks to MVNOs competing with La Poste Telecom. Existing regulatory obligations and competition from other MNOs were cited as factors mitigating this risk.
