08.10.2024 | 🇬🇧 UK competition authority
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has appointed Richard, Emma, and Lourenço as Senior Legal Directors to lead legal teams in different areas of competition law enforcement and regulation. Richard will oversee mergers, markets, and regulatory appeals; Emma will focus on consumer enforcement; and Lourenço will lead competition enforcement.
Richard, who previously worked as a Director in the Mergers team, has been promoted permanently after a successful interim promotion. Emma, with over ten years of experience as a competition lawyer, joins from Linklaters, while Lourenço returns to the CMA after working at the European Commission in Brussels.
Emma is set to join the CMA in November, while Lourenço will assume his post at the beginning of 2025. These appointments come at a crucial time as the CMA's responsibilities are expected to expand following the Digital Markets, Competition, and Consumers Act.
Chris Prevett, the General Counsel at the CMA, expressed satisfaction with the appointments, highlighting the importance of sound legal risk management and robust legal decisions in the CMA's work for UK consumers and businesses. The new appointments are expected to enhance the senior leadership team and legal service of the CMA.
