The CNMC has opened a public consultation to advance the regulation of age ratings for audiovisual content, aligning with the new General Audiovisual Communication Law's focus on self-regulation and co-regulation to safeguard minors from inappropriate content.
This regulatory framework applies to traditional audiovisual communication services like radio and television, as well as video-sharing platforms and relevant users.
The public consultation, open until October 28, aims to gather feedback from audiovisual operators, consumer associations, researchers, and other stakeholders involved in minors' development regarding age rating systems and the use of descriptors.
The CNMC seeks input on the self-regulation code of conduct for age ratings agreed upon by 24 audiovisual communication providers, as well as broader issues such as user complaint resolution, sanction systems, governance and design of independent control bodies, periodic monitoring and evaluation systems, among others.
