ACM Approves Car Dealer Acquisitions in the Netherlands

25.07.2024 | 🇳🇱 Dutch competition authority

The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has approved the acquisitions of Severs Breeman Automotive locations by rival car dealers Dusseldorp and Van Poelgeest, ensuring continued competition and options for car owners.

The ACM has cleared the acquisition of two Rotterdam locations of Severs Breeman Automotive by Dusseldorp Automotive, both dealers of BMW and MINI cars and parts, after finding no negative impact on competition. The investigation focused on maintenance services and original car parts sales.

Similarly, the acquisition of three Severs Breeman locations in Alphen aan den Rijn, Gouda, and Woerden by Van Poelgeest has also been approved by the ACM. The authority does not anticipate any adverse effects on prices or quality in the market for maintenance and repair services of BMW and MINI cars.

ACM is conducting a market study on the sale of passenger cars in the Netherlands, aiming to complete it by the end of the year to ensure competition and consumer choice in the sector.

ACM assesses acquisitions to ensure that competition remains robust post-transaction, safeguarding quality, competitive prices, and innovation in the market. The authority evaluates whether markets will continue to function effectively for consumers and businesses in the present and future.
