23.05.2024 | 🇱🇹 Lithuanian competition authority
The European Union (EU) Twinning project in Georgia, implemented by the Competition Council in collaboration with institutions from Lithuania and Austria, recently concluded with a final event in Tbilisi. The project aimed to enhance Georgia's competition legislation to align with EU standards and strengthen capabilities in competition and consumer protection. Throughout the two-year initiative, experts from Lithuania and Austria provided training sessions, reviewed and amended Georgia's legislation, and shared best practices from EU member states. The project, with a budget of €1.2 million, significantly increased Georgia's compliance with EU competition law from 60% to approximately 75%. The Deputy Chairwoman of the Competition Council highlighted the long-term positive impact of the project on competition and consumer protection in Georgia. A visit to Lithuania in May 2023 allowed Georgian officials to learn from their counterparts and exchange experiences, further supporting the development of a competitive market environment in Georgia.
