Austrian Competition Authority Imposes EUR 1.4 Million Fine on Fröschl for Participating in Construction Cartel

12.06.2024 | 🇦🇹 Austrian competition authority

The Austrian Competition Authority successfully applied for a EUR 1.4 million fine against Fröschl for engaging in anticompetitive practices in the construction sector in Tyrol.

The Austrian Competition Authority filed a request for a EUR 1.4 million fine against Fröschl for their involvement in cartel activities related to price-fixing, market allocation, and information exchange in public and private construction tenders in Tyrol from at least June 2005 to February 2016.

The fine was fully granted by the Cartel Court, and Fröschl cooperated outside the leniency program to provide comprehensive information, leading to a reduced penalty.

The cartel uncovered in the construction industry affected both public and private projects across Austria, involving agreements among companies to secure contracts, maintain market shares, and regulate capacity utilization through illegal practices like bid rigging and price agreements.
