The University of Athens Law School and the Competition Commission signed a Cooperation Memorandum on Friday, September 20, aiming to foster close collaboration between academia and Competition Authorities. The Memorandum signifies a new era of cooperation to exchange knowledge, monitor developments in competition law, and enhance the effective application of competition law in practice.
Following the signing, the 1st interdisciplinary competition law conference was held on the topic of 'Emerging Challenges in Competition Law Enforcement: forging links between enforcers and academia'. Distinguished speakers examined legal and economic developments impacting Competition Law, addressing timely questions such as the impact of anti-competitive behavior on decision-making in democratic societies and the need for more flexible modern antitrust legislation.
The conference also explored the changing landscape of competition law enforcement due to private enforcement, the essence of control and sanctions for anti-competitive behavior involving public expenditure, and the use of algorithms in digital markets affecting defense strategies against competition law violations.
