Rigó Csaba Balázs, the President of the Hungarian Competition Authority, emphasized at the 50th European Competition Day in Budapest that the broad and proper application of artificial intelligence can significantly impact the productivity and competitiveness of domestic businesses. The event gathered prominent experts to discuss current issues in competition policy, including the relationship between sustainability and competition policy, as well as the future opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence.
The European Competition Day, held every six months since 2000, was organized by the competition authority of the country holding the presidency of the European Union Council. The 50th edition was hosted by the Hungarian Competition Authority as part of the official program of the Hungarian EU presidency in Budapest, with around 200 experts and competition policy decision-makers from nearly 30 countries participating.
Key topics of the international event included competitiveness, the relationship between sustainability and competition policy, experiences with the application of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), and the opportunities and challenges arising from the advancement of artificial intelligence. The Hungarian Competition Authority presented its market analysis on artificial intelligence, examining its effects on market competition and consumers, emphasizing the importance of SMEs familiarizing themselves with AI opportunities to prevent market concentration.
