11.08.2024 | šŸ‡±šŸ‡» Latvian competition authority

Circle K Latvia seeks approval from the Competition Council to acquire Astarte Nafta's fuel station in Riga, potentially impacting the fuel retail market.

Circle K Latvia has submitted a merger notification to the Competition Council regarding the acquisition of Astarte Nafta's assets, which includes gaining control over a fuel station located in Riga, Krasta iela 93.

Both companies are registered in Latvia and are engaged in retailing fuel, LPG, oil products, snacks, hot beverages, and other goods at fuel stations. The merger would result in overlapping activities in the retailing of fuel-related products.

The Competition Council must make a decision on approving, prohibiting, or approving with conditions the merger within one month of receiving the notification. The deadline may be extended up to three months if further investigation is required.

Interested parties, including market participants, are invited to provide their opinions on the competitive impact of the planned merger by contacting the Competition Council's economist Vilni Zakrevski or filling out a provided questionnaire by August 26, 2024.
