Lukas Cavada Appointed as Expert for International Cooperation

16.12.2024 | 🇦🇹 Austrian competition authority

Lukas Cavada has been appointed to enhance international collaboration in competition law enforcement, focusing on cooperation with global regulatory bodies.

Dr. Lukas Cavada has been appointed as an expert in international cooperation at the Austrian Federal Competition Authority (BWB). His role involves coordinating and representing the BWB in collaborations with other competition authorities and international organizations such as the OECD, ICN, UNCTAD, and the World Bank.

The importance of international cooperation has significantly increased in recent years, particularly in combating anti-competitive practices. This is especially relevant in the context of globally operating digital platforms and ecosystems. Dr. Cavada has been with the BWB since early 2019 and has previously spent several months in the OECD Competition Division as part of his training. He also has experience working at a law firm for several years.

Dr. Cavada holds degrees in law from universities in Vienna and London and is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree at the European University Institute in Florence. He is a published author in relevant fields and frequently gives lectures both domestically and internationally.

Dr. Natalie Harsdorf, the General Director of BWB, emphasized the importance of cross-border cooperation in competition law enforcement, stating that cartels and abuses of market power do not stop at borders. With Dr. Cavada's appointment, the BWB aims to strengthen its efforts in this area.
