Competition Authority Issues Warning to 38 Entertainment Venues

27.06.2024 | 🇩🇰 Danish competition authority

The Competition and Consumer Authority has warned 38 entertainment venues to comply with competition rules after suspicions of anti-competitive behavior.

The Competition and Consumer Authority has reviewed extensive material and found that the behavior of entertainment venues may have been problematic, leading to a warning to adhere to competition rules.

While the case will not be pursued further at the moment due to resource considerations, the Authority reserves the right to reopen it if new information justifies it.

Entertainment venues are allowed to collaborate with public authorities but must avoid exchanging sensitive information or coordinating behavior that could restrict competition.

Following inspections and information gathering, 38 municipal entertainment venues have been reminded of the competition law's prohibition on agreements that limit competition.

The Authority's preliminary investigations suggest potential coordination of prices, terms, and market division among the venues, as well as sharing sensitive competition-related information.

As a result, the Authority has issued guidance on competition rules and emphasized the need for companies to ensure compliance.

The decision not to pursue the case further is based on resource constraints and the belief that market competition can be strengthened through a warning, although the Authority retains the option to reopen the case in the future.
