The Trade Inspection Agency in Poland has been monitoring the quality of fuels available in the market, including gasoline, diesel, LPG, and light heating oil, with inspections covering fuel producers, wholesalers, storage facilities, and gas station operators. The inspection system is divided into European and national parts, with entities selected for testing through a combination of random selection and signals from drivers and other authorities.
In 2023, out of 1584 samples of liquid fuels tested, 41 did not meet quality requirements, with the highest non-compliance rates found in certain regions like Wielkopolskie, Podlaskie, Małopolskie, and Kujawsko-Pomorskie. However, all LPG samples met quality standards, and light heating oil samples also passed laboratory tests.
Laboratory experts assessed parameters such as oxidative stability, water content, vapor pressure, octane number, and volatility index to determine compliance with quality standards set by the Ministry of Economy. Violations led to 17 fuel products being withdrawn from circulation and 25 cases reported to law enforcement for suspected criminal activities related to substandard fuel trading.
