27.08.2024 | 🇫🇮 Finnish competition authority
In September 2022, the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA) recommended the Market Court to impose a EUR 44 million penalty on several companies for engaging in anti-competitive practices in the HVAC infrastructure pipeline market. However, the Market Court found the evidence insufficient and rejected the penalty proposal.
The FCCA's proposal alleged that major manufacturers and wholesalers in Finland collaborated to maintain their market positions and restrict price competition between 2009 and 2016. While Pipelife and Uponor Infra were cleared of wrongdoing, other companies like Onninen, Dahl Suomi, Ahlsell, and Uponor Suomi were found to have violated competition law by impeding their competitors' activities.
The Market Court viewed the anti-competitive behavior as a temporary and isolated incident, differing from the FCCA's assessment. Due to the less extensive nature of the case compared to the proposal, no penalties were imposed on the companies involved. It's important to note that the Market Court's decision is not final and can be appealed.
