29.01.2024 | 🇪🇸 Spanish competition authority
The CNMC has initiated sanctioning proceedings against Bahía de las Isletas, the parent company of Naviera Armas, for allegedly breaching the commitments it made when acquiring Trasmediterránea in 2018. The acquisition created a monopoly in passenger maritime traffic between the Peninsula and the Canary Islands and raised concerns about competition in the maritime transport of cargo and passengers in other routes. The commitments made by Naviera Armas included allowing a third company, FRS, to operate in the routes where Naviera Armas was present. However, the CNMC has found that Naviera Armas has failed to fulfill these commitments. The initiation of the proceedings does not prejudge the final outcome of the investigation, and a maximum period of three months has been set for the CNMC to conduct the proceedings and reach a resolution.
