Ltd, societ che in Europa gestisce i siti di compravendita dei prodotti Shein, per lutilizzo di messaggi e asserzioni ambientali (green claim) ingannevoli/omissivi nella promozione e vendita di prodotti di abbigliamento a marchio Shein. La societ, tramite il sito web https://it.shein.com e altre pagine online informative e/o promozionali, ha diffuso claim ambientali nelle sezioni #SHEINTHEKNOW, evoluSHEIN e Responsabilit sociale, in alcuni casi vaghi, generici e/o eccessivamente enfatici, in altri casi omissivi e ingannevoli. Le asserzioni ambientali nella sezione #SHEINTHEKNOW, relative alla progettazione di un sistema circolare o sulla riciclabilit dei prodotti, sono risultate false o quanto meno confusionarie. I claim utilizzati da Shein per presentare, descrivere e promuovere i capi di abbigliamento della linea evoluSHEIN by Design enfatizzano luso di fibre green senza indicare in maniera chiara quali siano i sostanziali benefici ambientali dei prodotti durante il loro intero ciclo di vita e senza specificare che tale linea di prodotti ancora marginale rispetto al totale dei prodotti a marchio Shein. Inoltre, queste affermazioni possono indurre i consumatori a ritenere non solo che la collezione evoluSHEIN by Design sia realizzata unicamente con materiali ecosostenibili, ma anche che i prodotti di questa collezione siano totalmente riciclabili, circostanza che, considerando le fibre utilizzate e i sistemi di riciclo attualmente esistenti, non risulta veritiera. The Italian competition authority, known as the Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato, has sanctioned Infinite Styles Services Co. Ltd with a fine of €1 million. This penalty arises from the company's use of misleading environmental claims in the promotion and sale of its Shein-branded clothing products.

 Shein, through its website and various promotional pages, disseminated vague and exaggerated environmental claims in sections such as #SHEINTHEKNOW, evoluSHEIN, and Social Responsibility. The authority found that some of these claims were not only vague but also misleading, particularly those related to the design of a circular system and the recyclability of products.

 Specific claims made by Shein regarding the use of 'green' fibers in its evoluSHEIN by Design line failed to clearly outline the substantial environmental benefits throughout the product lifecycle. Furthermore, the authority noted that these claims could mislead consumers into believing that the collection was made entirely from sustainable materials and that the products were fully recyclable, which was not true based on current recycling systems.

 Additionally, Shein's announcements about reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 were deemed vague and contradictory, especially in light of the reported increase in emissions from Shein's operations for 2023 and 2024. The authority emphasized the heightened duty of care on Shein due to its operations in the highly polluting fast fashion sector.



The Bundeskartellamt has today cleared the formation of a joint venture between RTL2 and Warner Bros. Discovery. The main purpose of the newly founded company is to jointly market the TV advertising space offered by the companies involved.



Andreas Mundt, President of the Bundeskartellamt: “The television landscape is changing, and companies are increasingly interested in cooperation in order to hold their ground amid growing competition from international players. Although the conditions in the market have so far prevented closer links between competitors in previous cases examined, there are no grounds for prohibiting the cooperation project between RTL2 and Warner Bros. Discovery under merger control rules. As this project just involves smaller providers in the market, it is likely to even have a positive effect on competition. In this context, we no longer consider the market to be limited to TV advertising; we rather see it as a big-screen advertising market that includes TV advertising, but also, and in particular, the offerings provided by Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney and, to a certain extent, also YouTube.”



RTL2’s activities in Germany notably involve operating the advertising-financed television channel of the same name. In addition, the content is made available via RTL+ and other platforms. So far, RTL2 has mainly marketed its advertising space through its subsidiary El Cartel Media. Contrary to what its name might suggest, RTL2 is not a subsidiary of RTL but a joint venture owned by RTL and other players in the media sector.



Warner Bros. Discovery also operates several free TV channels in Germany, including DMAX, TLC, Tele5 and Eurosport 1, as well as pay TV channels, such as Discovery Channel, Warner TV Film, Cartoonito and Eurosport 2. In addition, the activities of Warner Bros. Discovery in Germany comprise film distribution, home entertainment, TV content licensing, consumer goods and video games. In terms of advertising sales, both RTL2 with El Cartel Media and Warner Bros. Discovery are far behind the advertising marketers of the leading broadcasting groups RTL and ProSiebenSat.1, which still account for the majority of sales, even when assuming a big-screen advertising market. At the same time, providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney are expanding into the field of advertising-funded video offerings. A Harvey Norman franchisor in Queensland, HN Macgregor Franchisor Pty Ltd, has paid a $15,650 penalty for allegedly breaching the Franchising Code of Conduct.



HN Macgregor paid the penalty after the ACCC issued it with an infringement notice for allegedly failing to include mandatory information on the Franchise Disclosure Register before entering into an agreement with a franchisee in July 2024.  



The Franchise Disclosure Register, which is hosted by the Australian Government, exists to increase transparency in franchising and assist prospective franchisees in making an informed business decision. Information on the register includes set-up costs and ongoing payments that the franchisee will need to make.



“A franchisor’s failure to publish up-to-date information on the disclosure register undermines transparency for prospective franchisees, and the reliability and integrity of the register,” ACCC Deputy Chair Catriona Lowe said.



“Many of the laws governing the franchising sector relate to information disclosure and are necessary because of the power imbalance between franchisor and franchisee.”



“Entering a franchise agreement is a significant financial decision and the register contains important information to inform this decision. Franchisees should be able to rely on the fact that all relevant information has been disclosed on the register,” Ms Lowe said.



“The franchising sector should be on notice that failure to comply with the Franchising Code of Conduct may result in enforcement action by the ACCC.”



One of the ACCC’s current compliance and enforcement priorities is to ensure small businesses receive the protections of competition and consumer laws, including industry codes of conduct.

Giorgio Armani Fined for Misleading Ethical Claims

The Italian competition authority, known as the Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato, has sanctioned Giorgio Armani S.p.A. and G.A. Operations S.p.A. with a fine of €3.5 million for engaging in misleading commercial practices. This penalty is based on violations of the Consumer Code, which were found to have occurred from April 22, 2022, to February 18, 2025.

 The investigation revealed that the companies made false and unclear ethical and social responsibility claims regarding their production processes. These statements were prominently featured in their Ethical Code and on their websites, including Armani Values and Armani.com. The authority noted that the companies used sustainability as a marketing tool to meet rising consumer expectations, despite the reality of their production conditions.

 Furthermore, the investigation uncovered that a significant portion of their leather goods production was outsourced to suppliers who, in turn, employed subcontractors.
